Alcohol and Other Drugs
Most Caltech students make safe and thoughtful choices when it comes to alcohol and other drugs.
Starting college often comes with more freedom—and with that, more responsibility for your own health and lifestyle decisions. One important choice that students make is about the use of alcohol and other drugs.
At Caltech, many students choose not to use substances and still have a great time socially and academically. Others may choose to use alcohol or other drugs during their time here. Whatever your choice, it's important to understand the risks and consider how your decisions align with your personal values and long-term goals.
Making safer choices helps students avoid negative academic, physical, or social consequences—and contributes to a healthier campus environment for everyone. Caltech Student Wellness Services works year-round with students, staff, faculty, and campus partners to reduce risks and minimize harm related to substance use.
Before making any decisions, we encourage you to review the Institute's Substance Abuse Policy and the guidelines around Alcohol and Other Drugs on Campus. These resources are here to support you in making informed, thoughtful choices that prioritize your well-being and contribute to a safe, respectful campus community.
If you ever have questions or need support, you're not alone—there are people and resources here to help.
